The
Story
For more than 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of helping individuals find healing, understanding and therapeutic growth as a Mental Health Therapist. Nearly a decade ago, I took a leap and opened my own private practice. A few years later, I expanded my work to include the Supervision of provisionally licensed Associates - a role that has allowed me to offer clinical oversight, mentorship, and professional development support.
I have been a licensed Professional Counselor since 2010 and licensed in Texas since 2011. I received my certification from the board to supervise in April 2018. Since graduation with a Masters of Arts in Professional Counseling from Eastern Michigan University in 2005, I have successfully worked in a variety of settings to include community mental health centers, foster care, crisis intervention, hospitals, schools and private practice. I have almost a decade working with LPC students and Associates in previous setting. I enjoy working with new LPC-Associates as they develop their model for the work they will do with clients.
Similar to my theoretical orientation when working with clients, my methods in supervision will stem from person-centered, relational and solution focused approaches. Supervision is a process whereby one person is designated to facilitate the professional development and therapeutic competence of another person or persons while safeguarding the clients of the supervisee. I have chosen to conduct my supervision using a model that employs the roles of teacher, counselor, and consultant within a supervisee’s developmental framework.
The
Experience
Reviews from past upgraded LPC-Associates
I wholeheartedly recommend Chari Westcott as a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor. I had the privilege of working under her supervision while I transitioned from an LPC-Associate to a fully licensed LPC. Her exceptional guidance and mentorship were instrumental in my professional development and licensure advancement.
Chari is an outstanding supervisor with a wealth of experience in counseling. Her depth of knowledge and clinical expertise significantly enhanced my understanding of complex therapeutic concepts and interventions. She consistently demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to ethical practice.
As a supervisor, Chari excelled in creating a supportive and enriching learning environment. She provided constructive feedback, helping to refine my skills and build confidence. Her willingness to discuss challenging cases made me feel valued and encouraged continuous growth. She guided me through the administrative and ethical aspects of counseling, ensuring I was well-prepared for full licensure.
As I worked with Chari, it was immediately apparent that she is a skilled clinician. When she listened to me, she was able to discern the actual problem that I needed help solving versus what I was struggling to articulate, an absolutely critical skill for a therapist. Chari also has diverse experience with a variety of clients and treatment modalities which translates to a wide knowledge of interventions that help clients make real progress. At first, I felt limited in my knowledge of therapeutic interventions and Chari helped me fill that knowledge gap. Supervision sessions with Chari never felt one-sided or formulaic. Not unlike a therapy session, we worked together to identify the real problem. Then she would facilitate exploration of potential solutions already within me, which helped build my confidence as a clinician. However, when I was clearly stuck, she would offer feedback and suggestions that would give me the tools I needed to work the problem at hand. This was always done respectfully and I never felt looked down upon or belittled.
I met Chari halfway through my supervised journey and had the privilege of being supervised by her for over a year and a half. During our time together, we weathered a global pandemic and a state level transition to the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC). In her role as a supervisor, Chari effectively guided me and fellow Associates, ensuring we understood the recent state level changes. Through insightful discussions and practical guidance, we gained a deeper understanding of therapeutic techniques and their applications. Additionally, Chari fostered a space where we could regularly check in with ourselves and acknowledge the emotional impact of our work.
Upon completion of my hours, I was confident that I had the information and knowledge needed for successful independent practice. Chari is a wealth of knowledge, and I cannot recommend her enough!
